The ongoing saga over the women's floor exercise bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics has taken a new turn.
Recent evidence suggests that the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) may be at fault for the controversy surrounding Jordan Chiles' bronze medal.
USA Gymnastics has provided timestamped video footage showing that coach Cecile Landi submitted two inquiries regarding Chiles' score: one 47 seconds and another 55 seconds after the initial score was posted
This contradicts the Court of Arbitration for Sport's (CAS) previous ruling that the inquiry was submitted four seconds past the one-minute deadline.
Despite this new evidence, CAS rejected USA Gymnastics' request to reconsider their decision, stating that the rules do not allow them to do so even with new proof
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has asked Chiles to return her bronze medal so it can be awarded to Romania's Ana Bǎrbosu.
However, Chiles has made it clear that she has no intention of returning the medal. USA Gymnastics continues to challenge the decision and plans to appeal to the Swiss Federal Supreme Court, which has the authority to overturn the CAS ruling.
