Use a feeder with a red color to attract hummingbirds. Red is their favorite color and helps them find your feeder even in the winter. 

Keep the sugar-to-water ratio at 1:4 to mimic natural nectar. This ensures the solution is sweet enough for hummingbirds but not too thick. 

Clean feeders regularly to prevent mold and bacteria growth. Wash with hot water and a brush to maintain a safe feeding environment. 

Replace the nectar every few days, especially in colder weather. Fresh nectar prevents freezing and keeps the birds nourished. 

Use a feeder with a built-in heating element if you live in extremely cold areas. This helps keep the nectar from freezing. 

Provide a windbreak near the feeder. A sheltered spot helps keep the feeder from getting too cold and offers hummingbirds a safe place to rest.
